What to do when the lights go out?

A tree may have blown over on a power line or an inquisitive squirrel has been barbecued in a substation.

To help chase away the darkness, an Aladdin lamp clinic will be offered from 1-5 p.m. Sunday, June 5, for getting or keeping the heirloom oil lamps in working condition. The clinic is at Precious Memories antiques in Pickles Gap Village.

"The Aladdin is the Cadillac of lamps," says Vonna Coker of Precious Memories.

The lamp will burn about 12 hours on a quart of kerosene or lamp oil with a white light equal to a 60-watt bulb, and "It’s emergency insurance against power outages and a one-of-a-kind heirloom," Coker says.
