Alton Biggs, Greenbrier ball player, is leading the Western association in stolen bases with 20 and is also topping shortstops of the circuit in hitting with a mark of .312 for the season, according to latest released averages. Biggs plays shortstop for the Hutchinson club. This is his second year with the team.

(1961)

Two boys officers said ran away from their homes in Benson, Minn., last week, were apprehended here early today. The sheriff at Benton told police the boys’ parents would come for them.

They were identified as John Erenberg and Richard Arne, both 16.

Sgt. Marvin Iberg and Patrolman Gene Tittle were making a routine check when they stopped the boys at 3 a.m.

Gregory Fiddler, 22, of Conway, is the newest member of the Conway Fire Department. Before being hired as a firefighter, Fiddler was employed by Rock Team Co. in the Conway Industrial Park. He is assigned to Central Fire Station. He is a 1984 graduate of Conway High School. Fiddler and his wife, Melissa, have one son, Matthew.

The Greenbrier Rangers, sponsored by Robert Wilcox of Conway Tire and Battery and Brian Henderson, took first place in the Greenbrier preseason tournament. They also won first place in their league and district tournament en route to becoming AABA State Tournament champs. The Rangers are Dustin Hayes, Devin Billington, Brent Henderson, Mitchell smith, Ryan Wolff, Jordan DuVall, Jordan Lessard, Tyler Hardin, Zeb Golden, Matthew Velek, Jake DuVall, Wesley Wilcox, assistant coach Justin Thomas and head coach Brandon Moore.
