Friendship Baptist Church, 767 Rocky Point Road, celebrated a ground-breaking ceremony to kick off the construction of its new $2.7 million dollar worship center.
Bro. Ken Jordan, pastor of Friendship, said "The new worship center will allow the members of Friendship Baptist Church to better meet the spiritual needs of our growing community. Our aim is to reach those in our community who do not know Jesus Christ as their personal Savior through our evangelic ministry and to help our members grow spiritually in Christ through the discipleship ministry. The new facility is not to provide physical comfort for our members, but rather to allow our members to serve Christ better."
Friendship Baptist Church was organized Sept. 9, 1917, with 12 charter members. The church has experienced rapid growth in the past 15 years. The sanctuary being built is the fifth sanctuary since the formation of the church.
The new worship center is designed by Rik Sowell of Rik Sowell Architects Inc. of Conway and is being constructed by NBMC Inc. of Greenbrier. Financial assistance is provided by Arvest Bank of Conway. The worship center is expected to be completed and ready for use by Aug. 1, 2012.
