Physician and Conway businessman, has announced his candidacy for state representative for District 72. He said his priorities will be bringing quality jobs to Conway and using his experience as a physician and businessman to improve Faulkner County’s economy.

"I’m a doctor and a businessman, not a politician," Magie said. "Through all of my business experiences, I’ve learned what it takes to attract and keep good businesses and employees. In the state Legislature, my experience at creating jobs and working with business leaders will come in handy as we work to improve Conway’s already impressive economic growth."

Magie, owner of Magie-Mabrey Eye Clinic, has been an ophthalmologist for more than 30 years. He attended the University of Central Arkansas and received his medical degree from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. Magie did an internship at the University of Tennessee at Memphis and his ophthalmology residency at Louisiana State University.

"In the entire Arkansas State Legislature there is not one medical doctor," Magie said. "Our state faces important health care decisions over the next few years and patients need an advocate in the state legislature to protect their rights. As a physician, I believe we must preserve the patient-doctor relationship and protect the patients’ right to choose their own doctor, especially in our needlessly complex medical system. As state representative, I’ll fight to protect patient rights and work to keep health care costs low."

Magie is part-owner of Allison Ford Lincoln car dealership and owns working farms in Perry and Lonoke counties.

He served on the Conway Civil Service Commission, is a member of the Conway Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Knights of Columbus and is secretary of Faulkner County Medical Society. Magie is also a member of the Arkansas Sports Club.

Magie is the president of the Arkansas Medical Society and the past president of the Arkansas Ophthalmology Society.

Magie and his wife Becky have four children and seven grandchildren. They are members of Saint Joseph Catholic Church.

Magie is seeking the Democratic nomination for open House District 72 on May 22, 2012.
