Officials with the Conway Police Department are investigating an armed robbery that took place late Wednesday night at Sonic, located at 1405 Dave Ward Drive.

According to La Tresha Woodruff, public information officer for the Conway Police Department, the suspect entered the business through the back door, which was unlocked at the time of the robbery and indicated that he was serious with his request for cash.

"When officers watched surveillance footage from the crime, they observed the suspect walk in through the back door to the business and continue through the kitchen, to the front of the business," she said. "The suspect walked past an employee in the kitchen who did not confront the suspect and demanded cash when he got to the front of the business where the registers are. The manager of the business told officers that the suspect chambered a round in the gun he was carrying while he waited for the cash to be given to him."

The manager had been outside the business and had just stepped back inside and went in the office when she heard the suspect say, "I am not playing, give me everything...".

When the suspect was given the cash from the registers, he fled through the back door and can be seen walking south away from the business.

The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 5-foot-9 inches tall, with a thin build. At the time of the incident, he was wearing a red hooded jacket with white detail, sunglasses, black pants, black shoes, black gloves and a white bandana over his face. The suspect was also carrying a black, semi-automatic handgun.

Officers arrived and searched the area for the suspect but could not locate him. Woodruff said the investigating is ongoing as officers are attempting to follow up on leads from the video.

However, while investigating the crime, two other black males can be seen outside the back door of the business. One man wore a light blue hoodie, and the other wore a white hoodie. Investigators are checking into the possibility that the men knew the robbery suspect or aided him in some way.

An employee told officers the front door of the business has to be electronically accessed and can not be opened someone inside the business presses a button to open the door. However, the back door is not on the same system.

The robbery marks the second time the business has been robbed in 2011. The Sonic restaurants on Harkrider and East Oak Streets have also been robbed this year.

About four hours after the Sonic robbery, a witness called for assistance when he saw a man kick the door to Cyberzone Internet Cafe, located at 2125 Harkrider St. The glass was broken from the door, but nothing was taken. The witness said the suspect he saw was a white male wearing a white hoodie. He also stated that there were two other men inside the vehicle. Officers are investigating to see if the two incidents are related.
