A would-be robber who threatened to kill his victim escaped with nothing but his freedom. Officials with the Conway Police Department are investigating the incident, which occurred Wednesday in the parking lot of Harp’s Food Store, 1120 East German Lane.

According to a police report, the woman was leaving the store when the man ran up behind her and threatened her. The woman said the man “grabbed her right arm and held on to it very tightly as he pulled her in close to his body.” He then yelled “give it to me, or I’ll kill you ... give me your wallet”.

The victim told officers she was able to wrestle free and stepped away from the man, who then laughed at the woman and turned and ran toward the east side of the store.

While there were no other witnesses to the crime, it was captured on the store’s video surveillance. The suspect can be seen running past the pharmacy drivethrough and heading north away from the store.

The victim stated that the man “did not show her a weapon but gave her the impression that he had one.” The victim had several scrapes and a few bruises on her arm from the incident.

When investigators watched the surveillance video, they saw several shots of the man in the store and questioned employees as to the man’s identity. An employee recognized the man as someone who they believe lives nearby and comes into the store frequently. The employee also provided officers with the possible suspect’s first name and the name of another employee who might know more about him.

Officers are still investigating the case and are working with employees to find the suspect.
