Elberta peach trees on A.A. Wilson’s farm near Greenbrier this season have borne two crops of fruit. The first crop was ripe about Aug. 1. The fruit large and delicious, but few peaches were on a tree, owing to the late frost. When the fruit was gathered, Mr. Wilson said he noticed several trees bearing ripe fruit had small peaches just formed.
On Sept. 16, the second crop was ripe. One tree had a rather heavy second crop, the fruit ripe with delicious flavor. The specimens were typical of Elberta in shape and color but small, the seed being very small.
Mr. Wilson said he has often noticed peach and apple blooms form late in summer or early in fall on dying or decadent trees. But this is the first time he has ever seen mature ripe fruit borne as second crop.
