Officials with the Conway Police Department are investigating a shooting that occurred Thursday afternoon at the Continental Inn, located at 134 Harkrider St.
According to La Tresha Woodruff, CPD public information officer, two men burst through the door to room 117 and shot one of the occupants of the room before searching through a drawer in the room and fleeing the scene on foot.
"The two men that are staying in the room told investigators that they were sitting in the room with the door cracked when two black men wearing bandanas over their faces and carrying black guns burst through the door," Woodruff said, "The men told the suspects they didn’t have anything for them to take and one of the men tried to get on the floor between the beds in the room. One of the suspects shot the man in the leg while he was on the floor."
Woodruff said the other man in the room told investigators that he believed the suspects thought his friend was getting a weapon and that is why they shot him.
While the man who was shot was trying to get on the floor, his friend was trying to get between his bed and the wall.
After the two suspects left the room, one of the men ran to the office to call for help, but a neighbor had already called for assistance when he heard the shot.
Woodruff said while the victim’s injuries were not life threatening, they are not releasing the names of the victim at this time.
Neither victim is from Faulkner County and told investigators that they are in town working for a dredging company.
