MAYFLOWER — Mayflower (2-3) made homecoming a happy time Friday night with a 69-39 romp over Brinkley.

The win evened the Eagles conference record at 1-1.

Terry Rhodes returned the opening kickoff 75 yards to give the Eagles the lead in 13 seconds. Junior Matthew Post followed through on the PAT, setting the score 7-0.

The next touchdown occurred when sophomore quarterback Carson Pate threw a 30-yard pass to senior Cody Elmore into the end zone.

Post’s PAT attempt was no good, putting the Eagles up 13-0 with 5:14 left in the quarter.

The Tigers scored their first points when Eyle Wilbon Jr. caught a pass and ran about 30 yards into the end zone with 3:51 left in the quarter.

Holiday’s PAT attempt was no good, putting the score at 13-6.

The Eagles ended the first quarter’s scoring when Pate handed the ball off to senior Taylor Mathis, who ran in the 17-yard touchdown run with 1:43 left.

Post followed through with his PAT attempt, ending the quarter 20-6.

The Eagles kept up their scoring runs throughout the game, ending the half 42-33 and the third quarter 55-39.

"They never sustained a drive against us," Davis said.

Davis attributed much of the success of the game to his coaching staff.

"They put in a great game plan, offensively and defensively and the kids executed it," he said.

Mayflower plays next week at Rose Bud.
