Conway’s boys opened their basketball season Thursday night with a 46-36 victory over Rogers.

The Cats pulled away with a 20-11 run in the second quarter.

Everett Reed led the Cats with 12 points and six rebounds. Tim Boyd added 11 points. Kevin Guiden had nine points. Xavier Clardy had five rebounds. Garan Davis had four points, four rebounds and three assists.

Conway won the junior varsity game 39-31. Deion Ball had 11 points and Brannon Sargent added 10.

The Cats play at Searcy on Tuesday.


Jennifer Hegeman grabbed a rebound and scored on a putback with six seconds left to lift the St. Joseph girls to a 38-37 win over Abundant Life on Friday night.

The St. Joseph teams swept Abundant Life, as the senior boys and junior boys teams won as well.

Heather Moix led the Lady Bulldogs with 13 points and eight rebounds. Meagan Briggler scored nine points, while Anna Mayor also scored nine points and blocked three shots.

"This was a tough, hard-fought victory," St. Joseph coach Chris Kordsmeier said. "We made the plays when we had to."

A strong third quarter propelled the Bulldogs to a 59-38 win in the boys game. Leading 27-20 at halftime, St. Joseph outscored its opponent 22-11 in the third.

Andrew Beck scored 15 points, while Cole Schichtl added 11. Andrew Kordsmeier and Drake Cooper scored nine points each.

"We had great effort and outstanding defensive intensity," St. Joseph coach Brent Bruich said. "It was nice to see our ball pressure. That’s also a great way to start the conference season."

The St. Joseph junior boys cruised to a 38-12 win. Britt Stroth led the way with nine points, while Austin Hoefher had six. William Field scored five points. Landon Bruich, Jacob Lampe and Jensen Thielke all had four points each.

The St. Joseph senior boys and girls return to action Monday hosting Southside Batesville.


Conway White defeated Hot Springs 43-31 to win the girls division of the Bryant tournament. 

Kianna Speight had 16 points, Christin Rogers had 12 and  Jordan Danberry added nine. 

Conway White upped its record to 4-0, defeating Vilonia 46-28, Clarksville 50-22, and Lakeside. Asia Willard turned in a solid defensive performance. Megan Goodnight had double figures in three of four games. 


MAYFLOWER — Mayflower split with Perryville in senior basketball games Thursday night.

Mayflower took a 66-35 victory in senior boys after leading 48-14 at the half. Austin Taylor led the Eagles with 17 points, and Dane Richardson added 11. Eleven players scored for Mayflower (2-0).

In senior girls, Perryville took a 39-38 victory. Erica Croft led the Lady Eagles with 10 pints. Lakyn Kendrick had 14 and Tori Cody 11 for Perryville.

In junior girls, Mayflower won 41-37. Bailey Camp had 16 points and Raegan Bartlett 12 for Mayflower (3-2). Mayflower won the junior boys game, 54-39. Hayden Long had 20 points and Jerry Perry 18 for Mayflower (3-1).


MOUNT VERNON — Mount Vernon-Enola defeated Nemo Vista in two senior basketball games Thursday night, both in conference play.

The Lady Warhawks won, 40-26. Heather Prowse had 14 points for MV-Enola while Shanna Smith had eight, Katerine Bartley six and Katie McNinch four.

The Warhawks won  a tightly contested senior boys game, 51-48.

Blake Keathley led the Warhawks with 14 points and Adam Caudill added eight.

Nemo Vista won the junior girls game, 40-26. Ashylynn Ellis led the Lady Warhawks with 11 points. Cailee Lasley added seven.
