UPDATED - 1:53 p.m.
A suspect that refused to stop when Officer Jared Durham with the Conway Police Department attempted to pull him over during a routine traffic stop about 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, led officers on a short chase through the downtown area.
According to La Tresha Woodruff, public information officer for the department, the chase began on Tyler Street when Durham attempted to initiate a routine traffic stop on the suspect because he did not have a registration tag on his vehicle. However, instead of stopping, the suspect continued driving with Durham and other officers in pursuit.
The suspect turned down Mill Street and exited his vehicle, while the vehicle was still in motion. It struck a mailbox before coming to rest in front of a home at the corner of Spencer Street.
The suspect fled the scene on foot but was found a short time hiding behind a home in the nearby area and was apprehended by Sgt. Casey Dunn.
According to Woodruff, the suspect has been cited for fleeing the scene of a crime and possession of a controlled substance, with the possibility of more offenses being added following the investigation into the incident.
The suspect’s name has not been released at this time.
