Officers were dispatched to the 2800 block of Dave Ward Drive around 8 p.m. on Saturday in reference to a report of suspicious activity after a caller reported that he had observed four black males dressed in all black clothing crawl through a hole in a fence separating a set of apartments from a shopping strip mall on Salem Road behind Salem Park Apartments.
The caller reported that two of the men had donned black ski masks before seeing the caller on his balcony. The man said that all four suspects then looked up at him; one of them motioning their hands for him to come down to them.
The man said when he refused to go down the stairs, all four suspects went back through the hole in the fence and got into a black Pontiac car, leaving the area from the alley behind the stores in the strip mall.
Police searched the area but found no indication of foul play in the immediate area. The hole that the suspects used to enter the property was reported to have been non-existent prior to the time the suspects were spotted at the fence.
According to the report, there was no further evidence found in the area suggesting the identity of the individuals, but based on the statements of the caller, an officer said it appeared that a crime had been “thwarted.”
