A student from Vilonia recently won first place in an art competition among students from the Art Department at Arkansas State University-Beebe, according to a news release from the school.

Amber Hill, of Vilonia won an award in Drawing I in the ASU-Beebe Student Art Show and Exhibit held in November. Another student from Vilonia, Harley Earles, in liberal arts, received an honorable mention.

Hill, who is in liberal arts with fine arts emphasis, won first place, according to a news release.

Other students received awards in areas of painting and design. Earles and Hill are among four students recognized in the Drawing I category.

The art works were judged on correct use of perspective, contrast, use of color and creativity. Winners were named in The England Center Art Gallery exhibits works of art by students and featured artists throughout the academic year. The gallery, located at the corner of Center and Orange streets in Beebe, has free admission and is open to the public 8-5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
