Arkansas Sen. Jason Rapert, R-Bigalow, will present a proclamation to a University of Central Arkansas professor who was awarded the 2012 Arkansas Professor of the Year today at 1 p.m., according to a news release.
Professor Stephanie Vanderslice received the award last year from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education and the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching.
Vanderslice, who is New York City area native, has been at UCA since 1997 teaching composition, creative writing and writing for children. She has been instrumental in the development of the National Writing Project of Central Arkansas and has been published in many book collections and journals both nationally and internationally.
Rapert will present the proclamation at 1 p.m. today in the Board of Trustee Room at Wingo Hall at 201 Donaghey Ave. The event is open to the public. Rapert will provide a legislative session update at the event.
