LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — The National Weather Service says parts of northern Arkansas could see significant ice accumulations as a storm system moves through the state later this week.

A winter storm watch will be in effect from Wednesday night through Thursday afternoon in parts of northwest Arkansas. Forecasters say rain and sleet is expected to transition to freezing rain early Thursday.

Forecasters say freezing rain could fall for several hours, particularly in Carroll, Madison and northern Franklin counties. Other counties in Arkansas covered by the watch are Benton, Crawford and Washington.

Elsewhere in the state, a mix of rain and freezing rain is expected. Forecasters say southern Arkansas should only see a cold rain.
