GREENBRIER — Fun, food and frolic seemed to be the order of the whole day as Greenbrier School District’s major fund raiser ran all day. It moved from the grounds behind the City Event Center to the Panther Pavilion for the crowning of 110 kings and queens from all the schools.
"The most fun thing about the Greenbrier Fall Festival was hearing all the children giggling on the festival grounds," commented one of the parents.
Demonstrations by the martial arts teams and dancers kept adults and kids entertained while almost 20 vendors under their awnings sold their wares all day. From cupcakes to card making to delightful Panther and Razorback goods — vendors were in a great mood on a beautiful clear day and the crowd was enthusiastic. Children had five bounce houses to run between, smaller games like fish and toss a bean-bag for the little ones and even spraying a coach with water behind a screen. Many teachers were doing their part by manning booths, selling tickets and cooking foods.
The evening ended at the Panther Pavilion with the individual crowning of each student who had been voted king or queen by their classmates. From the tiniest kindergarten students to the twelfth graders, J.R. Runyon from radio station Y107 announced their names. They walked into the Pavilion in beautiful evening dresses and suits to be congratulated by District Superintendent Scott Spainhour and crowned by Deputy Superintendent Dr. Lisa Todd. Fall Festival Chair Christy Corker kept things running smoothly.
Children in all grades had sold chocolate, raffle tickets and participated in fund raisers for four weeks. A $1,500 cash prize and an iPod were just some of the raffle prizes. J.R. announced the schools had raised a total of $110,515.50.
