The Conway Police Department will begin its accreditation process with the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies on Sunday.

The department is seeking its third re-accreditation after it was internationally accredited March 19, 2005, police spokesperson La Tresha Woodruff said in a department release Wednesday.

During the CALEA visit, all aspects of the Conway Police Department’s policy and procedures, management, operations and support services will be examined, Chief A.J. Gary said in the release.

"This verification is part of a voluntary process to determine whether the Conway Police Department meets the Commission’s state-of-the-art standards to gain accreditation, a highly prized recognition of law enforcement professional excellence," Gary said.

As part of the assessment, agency employees and community residents are invited to attend a public information session from 5-7 p.m. Monday at the Faulkner County District Court building at 810 Parkway Ave.

Comments are limited to 10 minutes, and must address the department’s ability to comply with CALEA standards, the release states. To review standards, residents are asked to contact Sgt. John Zanin at 501-450-6136.

For residents unable to attend the forum, comments may be made by phone between 1 and 3 p.m. Monday by calling (501) 499-0822. Letters can also be sent to CALEA at 13575 Heathcote Boulevard, Suite 320, Gainesville, Va. 20155.
