St. Joseph Elementary School’s kindergarten and first grade classes celebrated Thanksgiving on Nov. 26. The Kindergartners did so in connection with their reading about Native Americans. They studied their dress, transportation, homes and food. They also discussed the first Thanksgiving and read the book "Cranberry Thanksgiving" by Wende and Harry Devlin. The children made vests, headbands and tom-toms. They sang songs and had a pow-wow. That was followed by a Thanksgiving feast which the children helped prepare. It consisted of corn-on-the-cob, trail mix, cranberry muffins and butter. The first graders made Indian headbands with feathers. The children wrote what they were thankful for on each feather. They celebrated all that they were thankful for, especially their friendships. Popcorn and pumpkin pie was served.
