Hendrix College will host the fourth annual TEDxHendrixCollege conference. This independently organized event, licensed by TED, will bring together academics, activists, and other thought leaders, from around the world as well as right here in Central Arkansas, who are looking to make a change in their community.

The event will be centered on the theme of ‘Power’, and will explore how individuals and societies can do good work in changing times.

"Ultimately the goal of this year’s event is to ignite the passions of participants," says Allison Tschiemer, TEDx organizer. "We hope to empower people to engage with new ideas in their personal lives."

TEDxHendrixCollege will be held on Feb. 23 from 1-4 p.m. in Worsham Performance Hall on the Hendrix College Campus. Participation in this exciting, free event is open to all. Register at: www.TEDxHendrixCollege.com.

Registration will be capped at 100 participants.

Confirmed speakers include Stacy Sells, public relations consultant and educator advocating for empowerment through civic engagement; Todd Brogdon, CEO of Westrock Coffee Company; Mark Gilman, public librarian and community activist promoting a ‘New Social Reality;’ Barb Allen, consultant and academic researcher focusing on ‘Moral Leadership;’ Hen Mazzig, former Israeli Defense Forces officer and activist against anti-semitism; Jackie Nyamutumbu, Hendrix student and Zimbabwe native who believes in the power of asking questions; and Sami Kennedy, Hendrix student and aspiring physician who advocates for improving care for chronic illnesses.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.)

TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. Started as a four-day conference in California almost 30 years ago, TED has grown to support those world-changing ideas with multiple initiatives. The two annual TED Conferences invite the world’s leading thinkers and doers to speak for 18 minutes on a diverse mix of topics. Many of these talks are then made available, free, at TED.com. TED speakers have included Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sir Richard Branson, Nandan Nilekani, Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Isabel Allende and former UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown. The TED2014 Conference will take place in Vancouver, British Columbia, along with the TEDActive simulcast in neighboring Whistler. TEDGlobal 2014 will be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
