A "person of interest" in what police say may be several local burglaries was arrested early Friday morning after a tobacco store break-in on East Oak Street.
According to the Conway Police Department, officers responded to a burglar alarm at the tobacco shop just after 5 a.m. and went from there to a place where 31-year-old William Skylar Carter, "already known to be a person of interest in previous burglaries in town," sometimes hangs out, according to a CPD press release. He was found there with what the release describes as "[broken] glass on his clothing and cartons of cigarettes in his car."
Also according to the release, Carter allegedly admitted to police while being interviewed that he was also involved with a burglaries at Holly’s County Cooking and at a Lucille Street daycare. CPD investigators are looking into whether Carter may have been involved with other open commercial burglary cases in the city. He is being held on suspicion of three counts each of felony commercial burglary and misdemeanor theft of property.
Carter has previously been arrested on suspicion of stealing a car from a Conway car dealership for a "joyride" to Maumelle in 2012, unaware that it was fitted with a GPS tracker that let CPD officers know when he was coming back into town so they could be there to arrest him at the off-ramp.
