Thirteen students from the University of Central Arkansas in Conway, Arkansas participated in the 54th Annual Midwest Model United Nations Conference in St. Louis on Feb. 19-22. The UCA delegates, members of the UCA Model United Nations student organization, represented the countries of Nigeria and Spain at the conference. Dr. Mark Mullenbach, associate professor and director of the International Studies (B.A.) program, travelled with the UCA students to St. Louis as the faculty adviser. Dr. Mullenbach has taken UCA students to the MMUN Conference in St. Louis since 2003.

The Keynote Speaker during the Opening Session on Wednesday, Feb. 19 was Ambassador Ian C. Kelly, U.S. Representative to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe in Vienna, Austria since March 2010.

UCA students representing Spain at the MMUN Conference in St. Louis were Juan Mayen (Head Delegate), Katelyn Wilkins, Jesus Torres, Kate Loyd, Kayla Close, Stephanie Gray, Brittaney Williams, Helena Burrow and Lorenzo Bridgewater. Representing Nigeria were Logan Spurlock (Head Delegate), Jordan Kemp, Breanna Wilbanks, and Mallory Walker. Last Spring, Juan Mayen and Logan Spurlock were members of the UCA delegation representing Tuvalu at the National Model United Nations Conference in New York City.

The UCA delegation representing Spain was also recognized as one of the top four delegations in the ECOSOC Plenary Session, along with China (UW-Oshkosh), Republic of Korea and Croatia (Missouri State University).
