Johnnie Jones Sr.
Johnnie Jones Sr., 79, of Conway, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2010.
He was born Nov. 5, 1930, in Conway, a son of the late James Melvin and Annie Bell (Hill) Jones. He was also preceded in death by a son, Sanford L. Jones; sisters, Fannie Smith, Myrtle Bell, Bessie Jones; brothers, James and Willie Jones.
Mr. Jones was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, who will be missed by all. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War from 1952 until 1954. He retired from Virco after 20 years. He was a graduate of the former Pine Street High School and was a football player. Mr. Jones joined Zion Temple Church of God in Christ in 1974, where he served as a Sunday school teacher and helped wherever he was needed in the church.
Survivors are his loving wife, Elvira (Wright) Jones; sons, Ronald Jones and wife Patsey of San Diego, Calif., and Johnnie Jones of Conway; his daughter, Donna Gilkey of Conway; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ruby Irvin of Little Rock.
Mr. Jones will lie in state for viewing from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Zion Temple Church of God in Christ, with Bishop Frank Anderson Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Robinson Cemetery, under the direction of Roller-McNutt Funeral Home, Conway. (501) 327-7727.
