It has been said that our Christian faith is like a muscle. It can be weak or it can be strong, depending on how much we use it. So, how do we develop our Christian faith? Here are three simple steps.
•Read our Bible! Becoming familiar with what God says about us and about our life is the basis for developing our Christian faith. The Bible is God’s way of talking to us. It also provides us with the wisdom and spiritual insight needed to be successful in our daily lives. In fact, Psalms 119:105 states, "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path." Like the headlights on an automobile, the word of God illuminates our path so we don’t have any mishaps.
•Pray everyday! The Bible says in Hebrews 4:16 "Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need." Someone once compared prayer to breathing. There are two parts to breathing, inhaling and exhaling. So it is with prayer, there are two parts. First, you talk to God. And then, you listen for His response. What I like most about prayer is that it is never wasted. God always answers us. Sometimes He says, "Yes," sometimes He says, "No," and sometimes the answer is "Wait." But whatever His answer, He always has our best interest in mind.
•Attend church regularly! While attending a Bible believing church you will be encouraged, directed, and given the opportunity to serve others. Hebrews 10:25 says it best, "Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another…" I truly believe we all need the benefits that a good local church affords us.
Yes, our Christian faith is like a muscle. We need to take the time necessary to develop it every day. Reading our Bible, praying, and regular church attendance are all essential to growing and developing our Christian Faith. Always remember, your daily disciplines will determine the kind of Christian you will become.
