Hello Everyone!

This weekend we will join with millions of Christians from around the world to celebrate the death, burial, and resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The resurrection firmly establishes Jesus as the only begotten Son of God. It is the foundation of the Christian Faith. So today, I want to share with you three reasons why Jesus had to die.

1. To authenticate that He is the Son of God. When Jesus Christ died on the cross and was raised from the dead three days later, it proved without a shadow of a doubt that He is God’s son. Romans 1:4 states it in this manner, "...(He)was declared with power to be the Son of God by his resurrection from the dead: Jesus Christ our Lord." If Jesus had merely died and not been resurrected, He would have been considered just another preacher or prophet. But, His resurrection gave the final and irrefutable proof that He is the Son of the most high God.

2. To pay for our sins. We have all made our fair share of mistakes in life. Yet, when Jesus shed His blood and gave His life, we were declared not guilty. Hebrews 9:22 describes it in this manner, "…and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness." After shedding His blood for us, Jesus rose from the grave and proclaimed victory over sin and death. He alone makes it possible for you and I to be at peace with God.

3. To put His love for us on public display. Make no mistake about it, Jesus died on the cross to publically validate his love for us! Romans 5:8 states, "But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us." What amazing love God displays here, Jesus died on the cross for us even when we were hard to love. In fact, while we were still rebelling and making poor choices, Jesus gave his life for us.

In conclusion, instead of chocolate bunnies and egg hunts, I encourage you to shift Easter’s focus back to our Christian faith. Let’s take time to commemorate the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus. I leave you with John 3:16, "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." Happy Easter!!!
