The Bible speaks extensively about the impact our words have over the direction of our lives. In fact, Proverbs 18:21 states, "The tongue has the power of life and death…" The creative power of our words cannot be overstated or underestimated. Therefore, I want to share with you three words that I believe you should eliminate from your vocabulary immediately.
1. Can’t. I firmly believe that the word, can’t, should be quickly removed from our vocabulary. Henry Ford once said, "Whether you believe you can do a thing or not, you are right." Saying you can’t do something is a great way to ensure your failure before you ever start it. Paul said it best in Philippians 4:13, "I can do everything through him who gives me strength." If you want to be successful in life, eliminate the word can’t from your vocabulary.
2. Quit. Quit is another word that I firmly believe should be removed from our vocabulary. There is an old saying, "if at first you don’t succeed, try, try again." In other words, you have to keep trying until you get what you want out of life. Never allow a momentary setback or any past failures to stop you from pursuing your goals. Galatians 6:9 says it best, "Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up." Doing challenging times, with a bulldog type tenacity, we have to keep on working hard while trusting God for the results.
3. Never. The final word that I feel we should remove from our vocabulary is never. There is an old idiom I first heard as a child that simply says, "Never say never." This is good advice for the Christian. It reminds us that nothing is impossible, as long as, God is on our side. It reminds us that He is there to give us strength to face life’s many difficulties with confidence. Jesus explains it this way in Mark 9:23, "…Everything is possible for him who believes." Always remember, there is nothing too difficult for our God handle, so never say never!
The words we speak have creative power. They shape our thoughts and direct our actions. Our words even directly affect how we think and feel about our lives and the world around us. Therefore, we should choose our words wisely, changing them when necessary to line up with our desired results. Blessings….
