Nash Nichols toosed a five-hitter and struck out eight Monday in leading St. Joseph to a 5-0 baseball victory over Abundant Life.

The Bulldogs (9-3, 4-2) backed Nichols up with a 12-hitter attack. Jacob Lampe was 2 for 4 with an RBI and a stolen base. Taylor Schrekenhofer was 3 for 3 with a stolen base. Sam Massey was 2 for 2 with a stolen base.

"It was good to get back on the right track after a conference loss (to Conway Christian last week)," said St. Joseph coach Luke Davis. "All we can do is wait on the rest of the conference to finish and find out where we are seeded for district."

The University of Central Arkansas’ Jonathan Davis earned Southland Conference Hitter of the Week honors on Monday after leading the Bears to a three-game sweep of Nicholls State last weekend.

Davis, a sophomore from Camden, had a .769 batting average (10 of 13) with seven runs scored, three RBI and four stolen bases against Nicholls. Over the five-game span last week, Davis hit .667.

Davis, the reigning SLC Freshman of the Year, is hitting .349 for the season, ranking ninth in the conference. He is third in the league in runs scored with 32 and tied for fifth in stolen bases with 14.

The Bears improved to 16-17 overall and 10-8 in league play last weekend. UCA travels to San Marcos, Texas this weekend to take on the Texas State Bobcats.
