Tubby Smith to speak at clinic at Hendrix
University of Memphis basketball coach Tubby Smith, who led the University of Kentucky to the NCAA men’s championship in 1998, will be one of the featured speakers at the Arkansas Basketball Coaches Association Clinic on Tuesday, Sept 27, at Hendrix College.
Smith has coached at Tulsa, Georgia, Kentucky, Minnesota, Texas Tech and Memphis.
Another featured speaker will be Greenwood native Mike Neighbors, who led the University of Washington women to the women’s Final Four last season.
Also featured at the daylong clinic will be Arkansas State women’s coach Brian Boyer and Ouachita Baptist University men’s coach Dennis Nutt.

Skeeter Kell salute

A tribute to Skeeter Kell, a former major league baseball player, will be one of a series of readings by the Conway Writers’ Group at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 27 at the Faulkner Country Library.
Robert Reising will present the reading, "Conway Marks the Spot: A Tribute to Skeeter Kell, a Big League — Off as Well as On the Diamond."
Kell is a brother of the late Major League Baseball Hall of Famer George Kell. After Skeeter’s baseball career, he operated a sporting goods business and later became representative for Balfour graduation products. He retired in Conway. He died in May of 2015.
The Conway Writers’ Group (CWG) meets every Friday afternoon from 2-4 p.m. at the Senior Center. Writers of all ages and genres participate. There are no membership fees or dues.
Approximately 20 writers arecurrently members. The motto of the CWG is Isabel Allende’s request of all humans, to "Write what should not to be forgotten."
The objectives of the CWG are to encourage, assist, and celebrate writing in Conway.
