Central Florida took a 17-25, 25-16, 25-23, 25-16 victory in the Orlando East/UCF Challenge volleyball tourney as the Sugar Bears went 1-1 on the day,

Haley Tippett had 13 kills for UCA and Megan Nash had 11.

Friday morning, the Sugar Bears took a 25-18, 25-20, 25-17 victory over Central Michigan.

The Central Arkansas Sugar Bears opened play in the Holiday Inn Orlando East/UCF Challenge early on Friday morning, squaring off with the Chippewas For the match, Central Arkansas hit an impressive .341, with five players hitting over .250. Tippett tallied a match-high 12 kills, while Anderson added 10 of her own. Armstrong passed out a match-high 33 assists to command the UCA attack. Defensively, sophomore Amanda Dimon tallied a match-high 10 digs, while Peters led the way with a match-high five blocks.

Hendrix volleyball

Hendrix won its second straight Southern Athletic Association volleyball match Friday with a 23-25, 25-14, 25-22, 25-17 victory over Berry College.

UCA women’s soccer

Camille Bassett scored two goals Friday night in leading the UCA women’s soccer team to a 4-1 victory over Sam Houston State in their Southland Conference opener at the Bill Stephens Complex.

Ashley Smith and Jordan Slim also scored goals for the Bears.

CHS volleyball

At Little Rock, the Conway High volleyball team took a 25-13, 25-12, 25-12 victory over Little Rock Central to go to 4-1 in the 7A Central race.

Aly Brinkley had 12 kills and four blocks for the Lady Cats (9-4). Aryn Blumenberg had 23 assists and three aces. Hailey Weber added five digs.

Conway (8-0, 5-0) won the JV match, 25-15, 25-20. Jessica Gunnels hd eight kills, Holly Stewart three aces, Blaklee Scott, six digs, and Madison Lovell, 23 assists.

Greenbrier volleyball

Greebrier’s volleyball team went 1-1 in games last week against Mountain Home and Morrilton.

Mountain Home defeated the Lady Panthers (6-4), 26-28, 25-18, 25-16, 25-22.

Highlights: Jaylee Engelkes, 14 kills, three blocks; Katherine Jeane, 25 kills; Olivia Parker 17-17 serves, three aces, 29 assists; Raigan Baker, 24-25 serves, three aces; Natalie Burns, three blocks.

Greenbrier won the JV match, 25-12, 25-22. Burns and Payton Miller had four kills. Andie Finley and McKenzie Shannon, nine assists.

The Lady Panthers came from behind to defeat Morrilton, 25-27, 25-18, 25-17, 25-19.

Engelkes and Jeane had 16 kills. Cristen Lee was 15-15 on serves. Parker, Baker and Carrie Jo Harville were other service leaders.

Greenbrier won the JV match, 25-20, 26-24. Kailey Hamilton had seven kills and Payton Miller added four.

St. Joseph volleyball

At North Little Rock on Thursday, Central Arkansas Christian took a 26-24, 27-25, 25-20 victory over St. Joseph (4-4) in volleyball.

Brianna Wells was perfect in serving and had five aces. Joanie Elsinger had two blocks. Emily Flake had three assists and Morley Spradlin and Joanie Elsinger, two each. Chloe Detten and Elsinger had eight digs.

"My girls are really good, sweet girls; they will give you whatever you need," said coach Luke Davis. "But we have to stop giving games away. If you lose in three games, it looks like you got beat bad. But unless you were there, you could see that we were up 23-21 in the first and 20-12 in the second before giving them away. You have to play to win, not to not lose."
