Unlike the three previous meetings, the Hendrix College Warriors (3-0, 1-0 Southern Athletic Association) defeated the Millsaps Majors (1-2, 0-1 SAA) by a large margin, winning 42-14 Saturday in Jackson, Mississippi.
The Warriors got off to a roaring start in conference play, when running back Dayton Winn ran for a 66-yard touchdown on their second play from scrimmage.
Both offenses stalled for much of the first half until Hendrix scored 32-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Seth Peters to wide receiver Ethan Hoppe at the 6:45 mark in the second quarter, putting Hendrix up 14-0.
Millsaps struck back on a SIX-play, 63-yard drive on its ensuing possession when Andrew Warren ran for a 45-yard touchdown. The extra point was missed, bringing the score to 14-6.
Hendrix struck back with a 51-yard touchdown pass from Peters to wide receiver Ben Luedtke on its penultimate possession of the half, going up 21-6 at halftime.
Peters continued to feed his receivers when he threw a 34-yard touchdown pass to Nate Hodapp three minutes into the third quarter. The Warriors went up 28-6.
After a touchback, Hendrix drove 80 yards on 10 plays, leading to a 4-yard rushing touchdown by running back Mason Millsaps.
The Warriors put their final points on the board on their next possession, when Peters once again hit a new receiver for a 67-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Spencer Smith.
In the closing moments of the game, Millsaps scored its final eight points on a 25-yard quarterback keeper by Ty Proctor, bringing the final score to 42-14 after a converted 2-point conversion.
Peters threw for 239 yards and four touchdowns, completing 24 of 31 pass attempts.
Winn ran for 153 yards, one touchdown and one fumble on 11 carries.
Millsaps quarterback Chance Clowers threw for 163 yards and two interceptions, completing 14 of 32 passes.
Majors running back Taz Watson ran for 107 yards on 19 carries.
The Warriors return home for their second conference game of the season when it faces off against Centre College at 1 p.m. Saturday.
