SHERWOOD — Bentonville’s Kate Robertson overtook Conway’s Casey Ott for the individual state 7A girls golf title Wednesday while the Lady Cats held off the Lady Tigers for the team title.
Conway, which led Bentonville by 13 strokes going into Wednesday’s final round at The Greens at North Hills, won by six strokes with a two-day total of 449. Bentonville came in at 505. Rogers was third at 515.
Robertson, who fired a 75 in the first round, was 3-under on the back nine Wednesday with a 72, to claim the title with a 147. Ott, who had a three-stroke lead with a 75 Tuesday, had a two-stroke lead after nine Wednesday but fell to the final charge by Robertson.
The match was even with three holes to play, then Robertson took command on No. 16 and 17 to build a cushion that offset a bogey on 18.
Robertson and Ott advance to the Overall state tournament on Oct. 13 at Pleasant Valley Country Club in Little Rock. Also making the Overall field is Hannah Bakalekos of North Little Rock, who fired a 151. Brooke Matthews of Rogers, the defending 7A champion, did not qualify for the Overall.
Sydney Stiener followed Ott with an 80 and also earned all-state honors.
Other Conway scores were: Bailey Hawk, 94; Whitney Hill, 104; Jaclyn Walls, 112.
"We had five players this year, the smallest number of girls I’ve ever had (three scores count)," said coach Janet Taylor. "We did well with five players."
