The University of Central Arkansas is picked fifth in the preseason Southland Conference poill.
Defending champion McNeese was chosen to repeat this season, earning 242 points and gathering 22 of the 24 first-place votes. Abilene Christian received the two remaining first-place votes and totaled 205 points, while Nicholls also totaled 205 points to tie with the Wildcats for second. Lamar was picked fourth, garnering 190 points, while the Bears picked up 145 points to come in fifth
“Preseason polls mean the season is right around the corner,” said UCA head coach David Kuhn, whose Bears fell one win short of the SLC Tournament championship game last season. “They’re good for fans and for creating interest in the upcoming season.”
That season is rapidly approaching, as Central Arkansas begins in eight days at th Sand Dollar Classic in Gulf Shores, Ala., taking on Alabama, Virginia Tech, Florida A&M and Penn State.
