Houston Baptist opened a weather-delayed three-game series with the University of Central Arkansas on Saturday with a 5-3 victory at Bear Stadium.
The Huskies got 12 hits. Colby LeBlanc and TJ Black had two for UCA.
JT Newton was the winner for HBU. Mark Moyer took the loss.
The teams will play a doubleheader Sunday.
Junior Emma Svensson earned medalist honors and led the University of Central Arkansas women's golf team to the championship of the weather-shortened Murray State Jan Weaver Invitational on Saturday at Miller Memorial Golf Course at Murray,
The third round of the event, scheduled for Saturday, was canceled because of snow and cold temperatures.
Svensson shot rounds of 73-70 for a 1-under 143 and won by two strokes over Murray State's Moa Folke.
UCA won the 14-team ournament by 13 strokes after shooting 293-291-584. It beat host Murray State by 13 and third-place Austin Peay by another stroke. UCA had four golfers finish in the top five overall.
Senior Fernanda Lira tied for third place after 70-77-147, while freshman Geraldine Wong (76-72-148) and freshman Tasha Ainsley-Thomas (74-74-148) tied for fifth overall. Freshman Brett Permann tied for 20th (76-75-151) and junior Sally Fridstrom, playing as an individual, is for 60th (84-78-162).
UCA was followed by Murray State (597), Austin Peay (598), UL-Monroe (602), Arkansas State (603), Bradley (606), Jacksonville State (607), Belmont (609), Southern Illinois (614), Tennessee Tech (630), Alabama State (657), Lipscomb (660), Drury (666) and Tennessee State (678).
The tournament was UCA's final tuneup before the Southland Conference Championships on April 16-18 at Woodforest Golf Club in McKinney, Texas.
At Columbia, Mo., Friday, Columbia College (24-9, 11-7 AMC) swept three-game baseball series with Central Baptist College (19-21, 10-14) with an 8-3 victory.
Hunter Marshall got the start for CBC and threw a season-high eight innings, scattering 10 hits and allowing two runs with three walks and a season-best seven strikeouts. Charley Harber had four hits and scored twice, Brett Luna had three hits, scored twice and had an RBI, and Baker Wilson (two RBIs) and Trae BoBo (three) both had multi-RBI games.
CBC is back in action at home on Tuesday afternoon when they step out of AMC play to take on No.21 Texas A&M-Texarkana.
