While playing an integral role in the Central Arkansas men's soccer team's success this season, senior Chris Holmes has also been getting the job done in the classroom, as he was named to the Google Cloud CoSIDA Academic All-District Team for the third time in his career Thursday.
Holmes, who also earned Academic All-District honors in 2016 and 2017, is one of seven players from the Missouri Valley Conference honored, and one of just two repeat selections.
A Conway native, Holmes was one of three midfielders chosen to represent District 6, which is comprised of Division I institutions from Arkansas, Iowa, Louisiana, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin.
He is one of just of District 6's nine honorees to carry a 4.00 GPA and is pursuing a degree in Health Services Administration.
On the field, he has scored one goal and assisted on two others while helping guide the Bears to their first-ever Missouri Valley Conference title.
"Chris is a great example of what it means to be a student-athlete," UCA coach Ross Duncan said. "We are very proud of his accomplishments and know that he, along with the other seniors, have set a standard for what it means to be in our program."
By earning All-District honors, Holmes becomes eligible for the Google Cloud CoSIDA Academic All-America teams, which he featured on last year.
To be nominated for both the Academic All-District and All-America teams, student-athletes must maintain a 3.30 GPA at their current academic institution while participating in at least 50 percent of their team's contests.
Academic All-America teams for men's soccer will be announced on Dec. 6.
