A 21-0 run in the 2nd quarter was more than enough for Central Arkansas on Friday as the Sugar Bears rolled to a 72-40 victory over crosstown foe Hendrix College in the Farris Center.
After leading just 13-10 after the first quarter, the Sugar Bears held the Warriors scoreless for 8:32 and poured in 21 unanswered to put the game away, never letting Hendrix closer than 18 the rest of the way.
Sophomore center Hannah Langhi, making her third career start, leading the way for the Sugar Bears with 15 points, nine rebounds, two assists, two blocks and two steals in 28 minutes.
Junior guard Taylor Sells had 13 points, six rebounds, a team-high four assists and a pair of steals in 31 minutes.
Junior forward Keturah Bingham had 12 points in 14 minutes off the bench.
After recording just six assists in Tuesday's season opener against Central Baptist, the Sugar Bears had 17 on Friday – their second-highest total over their last 29 games, with 10 of the 11 Central Arkansas players who saw action recording at least one.
For the second straight game, turnovers played a significant role in the Sugar Bears' attack – forcing 24 after getting 27 in Tuesday's opener.
On Friday, they turned those 24 Hendrix turnovers into 26 points, while Hendrix got just six points off seven Central Arkansas turnovers.
The game saw 55 fouls called, resulting in 57 free throws.
The Sugar Bears knocked down 18 of 29 while the Warriors were 16 of 28.
With the win, Central Arkansas has won its last seven meetings against Hendrix – including all five since moving to Division I, by an average of 35.4 points.
The Sugar Bears improve to 44-6 in their last 50 games in the Farris Center.
The Sugar Bears held their opposition to 40 or fewer points for the 34th time under coach Sandra Rushing, including four times in their last nine games.
The Sugar Bears held Hendrix without a 3-pointer, just the second time they have kept the opposition from connecting beyond the arc in their last 83 games.
The Sugar Bears travel to Jackson State for their first road game of the season Tuesday before returning to the Farris Center next Saturday when they host South Alabama at 2 p.m.
