Starting conference play with a 2-1 series win over Southeastern Louisiana last weekend in Hammond, Louisiana, the University of Central Arkansas Bears return home to host Nicholls State for a 3-game series starting Friday.

In nonconference play, the Bears (6-11, 2-1 Southland Conference) went 4-9 against a trio of Missouri Valley Conference teams, South Dakota State and University of Missouri.

UCA started SLC play by taking the first two games against SLU, winning 3-1 and 3-2, but fell in the second half of a doubleheader 3-2 last weekend.

Then, in the first round of the Rock-N-Roar, the Little Rock Trojans beat the Bears 5-1 Tuesday at Bear Stadium.

This weekend, UCA gets back to conference play against Nicholls State at Bear Stadium.

The Colonels (10-8, 2-1 SLC) finished currently sit with an 8-7 nonconference record.

Nicholls dropped a 3-2 series opening game to the University of New Orleans last weekend in Thibodaux, Louisiana.

The Colonels bounced back to return a 3-2 win over UNO on Saturday and a 9-1 Sunday.

Nicholls also pummeled Alcorn State at home to the tune to 10-1 on Tuesday.

Their return game at Alcorn was postponed on Wednesday.

Though 18 games, senior Brady Bell is leading the Colonels in hitting, batting .386 with two doubles, one home run, 13 RBI, six walks, two hit by pitches and 10 strikeouts.

Of pitchers that have four starts for Nicholls, senior Parker White leads the team with a 2.19 ERA, giving up nine runs, six earned on 24 hits, nine walks, one hit batter and 27 strikeouts in 24.2 innings pitched.

The Bears are led offensively by junior Beau Orlando, hitting .327 with four hits, 12 RBI on 18 hits, 12 walks and five hit by pitches.

They are led by senior Cody Davenport in pitching with a 1.50 ERA, giving up six runs, four earned, eight walks, 15 hits and striking out 26.

The series against Nicholls begins at 6 p.m. Friday, 4 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday at Bear Stadium.
