FRISCO, Texas — University of Central Arkansas freshman Gracie Hyde picked up two big outdoor track and field postseason honors from the Southland Conference on Wednesday.
Hyde, a freshman from Benton, was named the Female Outstanding Running Events Performer and also Freshman of the Year for the conference.
Hyde won two gold medals at the recent Southland Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Natchitoches, Louisiana, taking first place in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and the 5,000 meters.
Hyde ran a Walter P. Ledet Stadium record in winning the 5,000.
Hyde was also the SLC Freshman of the Year in cross country last fall and earned second-team All-SLC honors.
Three other UCA student-athletes earned All-SLC honors on Wednesday. Junior sprinter Ajah Criner from Stephens, was a two-time third-team selection after finishing third in both the 100 meters and 200 meters at the SLC Outdoor. Criner broke the school record in the 200 meters with a time of 23.46. Criner was also a second-team All-SLC selection in indoor track in the 200 meters.
Senior Markus Schweikert won the 10,000 meters at the SLC Outdoor to earn the gold medal.
Schweikert, from Spay, Germany, holds school records in the 5,000 (outdoor) and 3,000 and 5,000 (indoors).
He was a two-time indoor All-SLC selection earlier this year in the 5,000 and the distance medley relay.
Junior Jaron Hamilton of Grand Prairie, Texas, set the school record (9:09.23) and won a silver medal in the 3,000 steeplechase to earn third-team All-SLC honors.
