FAYETTEVILLE — The University of Arkansas Board of Trustees on Thursday approved naming the men’s gym for former Arkansas coach Eddie Sutton in the basketball practice facility that has practice gyms and coaches offices for both the Razorbacks’ men’s and women’s practice.
Previously called the Basketball Performance Center, henceforth it will be called the Eddie Sutton’s Men’s Basketball Practice Gym.
Sutton, whose 1974-1985 Razorbacks era transformed Barnhill Arena into a nationally home court advantage ushered in by the fabled Triplets of Sidney Moncrief, Ron Brewer and Marvin Delph.
Sutton compiled a 260-75 record at Arkansas, winning or sharing five Southwest Conference championships and advancing the Razorbacks to the NCAA Tournament consecutively his last nine years including the 1978 Final Four and 1979 Elite Eight.
He brought four teams Creighton, Arkansas, Kentucky and Oklahoma State, to the NCAA Tournament, including two Final Fours at Oklahoma State.
His overall record, including a final season coaching the University of San Francisco, is 804-328.
He was voted into the Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame and repeatedly has been nominated for the Naismith Hall of Fame.
