University of Central Arkansas pitcher Cody Davenport was named to the 2019 ABCA/Rawlings Division I Central All-Region team this week.
Davenport, a senior right-hander from Fayetteville, was a second-team all-region selection after finishing with a 7-4 overall record and a 1.98 ERA, which led the Southland Conference.
He struck out a team-high 95 batters (third in the SLC) in 104.2 innings and had four complete games, including a complete-game shutout in UCA's SLC Tournament opener.
Davenport, who was drafted in the 20th round of the Major League Baseball Draft by the Kansas City Royals and signed his contract on Monday, set school records for career strikeouts (272), innings pitched (365.1) and games started (55), and also tied the career record for victories (22).
Davenport was joined on the Central All-Region team by other SLC players.
Six from UCA earn SLC All-Academic honors
The University of Central Arkansas had six student-athletes named to the Southland Conference Outdoor Track and Field All-Academic teams on Wednesday.
Senior Markus Schweikert (Spay, Germany) was an automatic selection after earning first-team All-SLC honors after wining the 10,000 meters at the SLC Outdoors.
He has a 3.90 GPA in marketing.
Schweikert is the school record holder in the 5,000 (outdoor) and the 3,000 and 5,000 (outdoors).
Juniors Jaron Hamilton and Jared Hamilton (Grand Prairie, Texas) were named to the team after recording GPAs of 3.82 and 3.68, respectively, both in exercise science.
Jaron set a school record and won the bronze medal in the steeplechase at the SLC Outdoor.
On the women's side, senior Hannah Noble (Berryville) earned her second SLC All-Academic honors and had a 3.86 GPA in marketing.
She had a Top 10 finish in the high jump at the SLC Outdoor.
Senior Ajah Criner (Stephens) had a 3.26 GPA in exercise science.
She earned a combined 12 points with bronze medal finishes in both the 100 meters and 200 meters at the SLC Outdoor, setting a school record in the 200 meters.
Junior Erin Woodward (Little Rock) earned her honors with a 4.0 GPA in health science/physical therapy.
She finished in the top 10 in the 1,500 meters at the SLC Outdoor.
