FAYETTEVILLE — Committed in 2017 to play for Chad Morris when Morris coached SMU and signing with Arkansas after Morris became Arkansas’ coach in December following the close of the 2017 regular season, offensive lineman Silas Robinson plans departing the Razorbacks minus Morris.

Robinson has put his name into the NCAA’s transfer portal, it was confirmed Monday.

Morris was fired Nov. 10 going 2-8, 0-6 in the SEC this season after a 2-10, 0-8 SEC season 2018 debut. The Razorbacks closed 2019 again 2-10, 0-8.

Robinson of Yoakum, Texas, redshirted last season and played six games as a reserve this season.

Florida Atlantic coach Lane Kiffin, the son of 1977-79 Razorbacks defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin, appears high on Arkansas’ coaching search and has been reported by several media outlets to have been extensively interviewed Sunday in Boca Raton, Florida, by Arkansas athletic director Hunter Yurachek and senior associate athletic director Jon Fagg.

Kiffin this week coaches his 9-3 FAU Owls, Eastern Division champions of Conference USA, against Conference USA Western Division champion Alabama-Birmingham, 9-3, in Saturday’s Conference USA’s championship game in Boca Raton.

Kiffin is the former head coach of the Oakland Raiders in the NFL followed by collegiate head coaching stints at Tennessee, which left after a year to head coach Southern California where he had been offensive coordinator.

Forced out at USC, Kiffin was the Alabama offensive coordinator under Nick Saban before accepting the FAU head coaching job in December, 2016.

Iowa State coach Matt Campbell, the Toledo coach when Toledo beat former Arkansas coach Bret Bielema’s Razorbacks in 2015 at Little Rock, and Washington State coach Mike Leach also have been reported on Arkansas’ wish list along with Memphis coach Mike Norvell, and Boise State coach Bryan Harsin, formerly the head coach at Arkansas State.

On Saturday, Norvell coaches Memphis in the American Athletic Conference championship game, while Harsin coaches Boise State in the Mountain West Conference championship game.

Coaching hunt competition has increased since the November during the season firings of Morris at Arkansas and Willie Taggart at Florida State.

Missouri fired coach Barry Odom last Saturday despite his Tigers Friday closing their 6-6 season defeating the Razorbacks, 24-14 in Little Rock.

Ole Miss on Sunday fired coach Matt Luke off a 4-8 season which did include a 31-17 victory over Arkansas in Oxford, Miss.
