MAGNET COVE — In a rematch of last year’s 2A girls state championship game, St. Joseph’s girls advanced to the semifinals of the 2A-5 North tournament with a 55-44 victory over Conway Christian.
The Lady Bulldogs clinched a berth in next week’s regional tournament at Carlisle.
St. Joseph trailed 15-11 after the first quarter, then rallied for a 27-24 halftime lead. The Lady Bulldogs led 41-36 after three quarters and outscored 14-8 in the final period to pull away.
"The girls played very well and I was proud of our effort. This was a hard- fought game by both teams," said St. Joseph coach Chris Kordsmeier. " Conway Christian has a very good club. Both teams laid it on the the line. That is what it is supposed to be about.
"We had great balance on offense and did well on the boarda. This was a total team effort."
Amy Schichtl led the Lady Bulldogs with 17 points and six rebounds. Heather Moix had 16 points, 10 rebounds and four assists. Heather Dail added 12 points. Courtney Briggler had eight rebounds and 10 blocked shots. Rebecca Moix had seven assists and three steals. Jennifer Hegeman had four points and four rebounds.
Kelly Hays led the Lady Eagles with 21 points. Christina DenHartog added 12.
The win puts us in the semi finals on Friday at 4 vs. england.
