MANHATTAN, Kan. — Senior Gideon Pienaar shot a final-round 74 on Tuesday to earn medalist honors and carry the University of Central Arkansas Bears to the 2010 Jim Colbert Intercollegiate championship at Colbert Hills Golf Club.
Pienaar, a senior from Pongola, South Africa, shot 72-65-74 — 211 and won the individual title by three strokes over host Kansas State’s Jack Watson (214). The Bears won the tournament with an 889 score, besting second-place Kansas State by nine strokes. Missouri-Kansas City was second at 902, followed by Drake (911), Creighton (924), UC Riverside (929) and South Dakota State (930).
UCA senior Steven Lecuyer tied for fourth overall with rounds of 73-75-73 — 221. Senior Andrew Hopkins shot 82-72-77 — 231 and tied for 19th place, while junior Josh Sims was 21st at 74-80-78 — 232. Junior Chris Cooke tied for 24th at 80-78-76 — 234.
UCA had two players playing as individuals. Antonio Costa tied for fourth at 78-70-73 — 221, while Jad Sinclair tied for 19th at 75-81-75 — 231.
UCA’s scores for the three rounds were 299-290-300.
