COLUMBIA, Mo. — The University of Central Arkansas track and field teams combined to win eight events and set six school records at the University of Missouri Collegiate Challenge on Friday. After Friday’s performances, the Bears and Sugar Bears have 19 qualifiers each for the Southland Conference Indoor Championships in Norman, Okla. on Feb. 25-26.
For the women, sophomore Courtney Efurd set a school record and won the 800 meters in 2:20.28. Freshman Kayla Nehus broke the five-year old 1,000 meters record by nearly 26 second, placing second in 3:04.81.
Freshman Tanesha Maxwell broke her own record in the 60 meter dash with a 7.77-second sprint for the second best preliminary time. She also finished fourth in the 200 meters in 26.39 sec. Sophomore Megan Snow finished second in the 60 meter hurdles in 8.97 seconds, break a school record.
Sophomore McKinley Rea of Conway qualified for the SLC Championships in the pole vault at 10-1/2, placing sixth.
Jasmine Ellis, Jasmine Johnson, Jasmine Coleman and Jordan Chadwick finished second in the 4x400 meter relay in 4:07.96.
Other top finishers for the Sugar Bears included: Kayleigh Lewellyn in the 5,000 meters (4th, 20:23.75), April Martin in the triple jump (4th, 36-4 1/4), Meagan Snipes in the mile (5th, 5:34.34), Jessica Potter in the high jump (7th, 5-1 1/2), and Mackenzie Johnson in the weight throw (8th, 42-3 1/2).
For the men, junior Jaron Criswell broke his own school record and the meet record by winning the long jump at 23-5 1/4. He also finished third in the triple jump at 46-4 3/4. Junior Isaiah Mason qualified for the SLC Indoor in the long jump with a fourth place leap of 21-11 1/2.
Senior Donavan Loring set a meet record and broke his own triple jump record he set in 2007. His jump was 50-2. Junior Jeremy Stuckey also qualified for the triple jump, placing fifth at 44-2.
The Bears set a meet record in the 4x400 meter relay. The team of Sage Raphael, Courtney Houff, Demarcus Harrison and Trevor Peacock ran the relay in 3:22.04. The tandem of Michael Allen, Jeremiah Fleeman, Amos Gerber and Ananias Hudson won the distance medley relay in 10:49.03.
Allen won the 800 meters and qualified for the Southland Championships with a time of 1:57.95. Fleeman won the 3,000 meters in 8:57.75. Junior James Anderson won the high jump at 6-8 3/4. Senior Phillip Boles qualified in the 200 meters by placing second in 22.54 sec.
UCA’s other top finishers included: Harrison in the 400 meters (3rd, 50.98), Logan Dockery in the 5,000 meters (3rd, 16:27.33), Stuckey in the 60 meters (4th, 7.00 sec.), Daniel Reese in the pole vault (5th, 15-2 1/4), Gerber in the mile (11th, 4:32.95), Raphael in the 600 yards (13th, 1:16.90) and Jake Goode in the 60 meter hurdles (13th, 9.51 sec.).
