WACO, Texas — Baylor hit a pair of home runs off of Central Arkansas pitcher Kelsie Armstrong en route to a 3-0 victory at BU’s QTI Powers Invitational on Saturday afternoon at Getterman Stadium.
Baylor (13-0) got an eight-strikeout four-hitter from Liz Paul (3-0) in the circle. Armstrong (2-7) struck out one and allowed five hits and two walks in six innings for UCA (3-10).
With two outs in the top of the first, UCA junior Kasey Britt hit a double to left center field. Catcher Melanie Bryant followed with a single up the middle but Britt was out at the plate by BU center fielder Kathy Shelton.
Baylor designated player Whitney Canion led the top of the third off with a solo homer. Shorstop Dani Leal drew a walk to start the sixth inning, followed by a two-run blast by left fielder Shelbi Redfearn.
Britt went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles for UCA. Bryant also had two hits.
UCA will wrap up the tournament with an 11 a.m. game against Sam Houston State on Sunday.
UCA lost to Sam Houston State 5-4 in a non-conference game on Saturday at Getterman Stadium. The Bears (3-9) outhit the Bearkats (7-11) 10-7.
Britt went 3-for-4 with a double and a RBI for the Bears. Katie McGregor drove in two runs.
Bearkat pitcher Tomi Garrison (5-5) struck out eight and allowed three walks, 10 hits and four runs to get the win. UCA sophomore Kelsie Armstrong (2-6) allowed two hits, one run, one walk and struck out one in two innings of relief.
