The Hendrix College men’s soccer team will get its first taste of competition of the 2011 season when it hosts Lyon College in an exhibition game at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Warrior Field.

It will be the first of two pre-season contests for Hendrix, as they will also take Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday.

The Warriors, under fourth-year head coach Doug Mello, return 15 letterwinners from last season’s squad that went 8-8-1. Added that are nine freshmen. 

Junior midfielder/forward Connor Silvestri returns after leading the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference in goals (15), goals per game (0.94) and points per game (2.06) a year ago, en route to a First Team All-SCAC honors. Senior midfielder/forward Duncan Keegan, a Second Team All-SCAC selection, was second in scoring last year, connecting on eight goals and four assists. Also back is junior midfielder Ian Evans, a third-team All-SCAC pick, and senior midfielder/forward Colin Thompson, who led the Warriors with six assists in 2010.

Senior goalkeeper Adam Legg returns, after recording 65 saves and two shutouts in 15 starts last season.

The women’s soccer team will play OBU at 5:30 p.m. Friday in an exhibition at Arkadelphia then take on Christian Brothers University in another exhibition at Warrior Field at 1 p.m. Sunday.
