The Arkansas State Red Wolves scored two goals in the first 12 minutes of the game and that was enough to down the University of Central Arkansas Bears 2-0 on Friday at the Bill Stephens Soccer/Track Complex.
Freshman forward Jessica Jingblad scored from 10 yards out on a pass from junior Ashley McMurtry just 1:58 into the game. Senior forward Kara Nitti made it 2-0 for the Red Wolves (2-0-1) with a goal from 12 yards out on the left side, with an assist from Jingblad in the 12th minute.
UCA’s defense stiffened after that and turned away five shots on goal the rest of the way. Junior Kelsey Gochnauer had all five saves for the Bears (1-2). UCA managed only two shots on goal and five total shots for the match.
The Bears are off until next Friday when they host Texas Southern at 4 p.m.
