NATCHITOCHES, La. – The University of Central Arkansas volleyball team finished off its trip to the state of Louisiana on Saturday with a 25-12, 25-8, 25-8 sweep over the Alcorn State Braves Saturday morning.

UCA (5-7) made quick work of the Braves as the match took just under one hour to complete. The Sugar Bears held Alcorn State (1-12) to a porous hitting percentage of -.019 while striking a red-hot and season-best .403, including a third-set mark of .579.

Senior Lauren Dear took the reins at the setter position Saturday morning and led her team with 31 assists, three kills and six digs. Freshman Taylor Whileyman continued her strong play this weekend as she led all participants with eight kills. The Richmond, Texas native also tallied two aces, two digs and one block. Jessica Nagy tied a season-high with six aces, tallied seven kills and also added six digs. Junior outside hitter Lindsey Barron had six kills on just eight attempts, finishing with a hitting percentage of .750.

The Braves, who managed just nine kills in the contest on 53 attempts were led by Jasmine Jones’ three kill, two dig effort.

The Sugar Bears return to action on Thursday for a league bout with Sam Houston State in Huntsville, Texas.
