SEWANEE, Tenn. — After winning its first two Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference matches on Saturday, the Hendrix College volleyball team earned a split Sunday, giving the Warriors a 11-7 overall record and 3-1 league mark to start the year.
Hendrix swept Oglethorpe (2-11, 0-3) 25-19, 25-18, 25-14 in the morning, then lost to Centre (8-7, 3-1) 21-25, 25-19, 25-13, 25-21 at the SCAC East/Central Divisional Tournament.
In the win against the Stormy Petrels, the Warriors hits .342 with 36 kills, five aces and 11.5 blocks. Freshman outside hitter Kylee Spicer led the way with 11 kills while hitting .429. Sophomore middle blocker Alyssa Jaksich had seven kills, six blocks and hit .545. Sophomore setter Zoe Calhoun recorded 33 assists and senior libero Jennifer Youngblood had 12 digs.
Against the Colonels, the Warriors hit .259 with 44 kills and five blocks. Junior middle blocker Melissa Clement connected on 13 kills and junior Katie Bates added nine. Jaksich had seven kills to go with five blocks. Calhoun registered 42 assists and Youngblood came up with 18 digs.
The Warriors will be off until Saturday, Oct. 1, when they will play at the SCAC Central/West Divisional hosted by Rhodes in Memphis, Tenn.
