ROCKWALL, Texas –  The Hendrix College swimming and diving teams concluded the 2011-12 season at the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships at the Rockwall ISD Natatorium on Saturday night.

The Warrior women finished in seventh place, while the men, who only had six team members competing, finished eighth.
Senior Vanessa Morris broke her third school record of the championships, breaking Elyse Beard’s 2005 mark in the 1,650-yard freestyle. Morris broke the record by nearly five seconds with a time of 17:54.31, finishing fourth. Freshman Sydney Haldeman of Conway had the Warriors’ highest finish of the week, placing third in the 200 backstroke in 2:09.54.

Junior Alanna Montgomery also had a personal best 2:41.26 in the 200 yard backstroke, finishing in 14th during the B finals. Freshman Ava Commissariat narrowly missed out on the finals in the 200 butterfly, placing 17th in 2:39.42.

The 400 freestyle relay team of Morris, Haldeman, junior Emily Hanson and freshman Laura Price finished seventh in 3:52.33.

For the men, sophomore Matthew Larson shaved 90 seconds off his personal best in the 1,650 freestyle, taking 10th in 17:31.45. Freshman Samuel Maynard was 12th in the 200 butterfly finals with a time of 2:13.61. Freshman Joseph Schmits was Hendrix’ top finisher in the 100 yard freestyle, swimming a personal best 53.57 second, good for 31st place.

Byford, Maynard, Schmits and senior Alex Koeppel finished the meet with an eighth place finish in the 400 freestyle relay in 3:33.84.

Trinity won the men’s field with 984 points. They were followed by Colorado College (698), Sewanee (638), Centre (583), Rhodes (290), Southwestern (223), Austin (170) and Hendrix (145). TU also won the women’s championship with 999 points, followed by Centre (690), Colorado (528), Sewanee (433), Rhodes (417), Southwestern (399), Hendrix (220) and Austin (122).
