The University of Central Arkansas Bears had two four-run innings on Sunday to beat the SIU-Edwardsville Cougars 10-4 in non-conference action at Bear Stadium.

The victory completed the weekend sweep for the Bears (3-3), who had at least 10 hits in all three games. UCA finished with an even 10 hits Sunday, with sophomore center fielder Jonathan Davis going 3 for 5 with 4 RBI, including a three-run double in the sixth inning. Blake Marchal and Doug Votolato had two hits each, while Forestt Allday contributed three RBI.

UCA took the lead for good with two runs in the bottom of the first off SIU starter Josh Hoguet. Allday started it with a walk and Davis moved him to third with a single to left field. After Davis stole second, Allday scored on Bryan Willson’s groundout, and Davis came in on wild pitch by Hoguet.

UCA notched four more in the second inning with an RBI single by Votolato and a two-run triple by Allday. Davis added an RBI single up the middle to make it 6-0.

In the fifth inning, the Cougars (2-4) got four runs off UCA starter Ryan Angus, who was replaced by Dylan Owen (1-0). An error on right fielder Ethan Harris allowed the fourth run to score before Owen struck out Joel Greatting to end the inning.

UCA put it out of reach for good with four runs in the sixth. Travis Snider was hit by a pitch and stole second. Blake Marchal was also hit by a pitch and Votolato singled to load the bases. New SIU pitcher Thad Hawkins came on and promptly walked Allday for one run before Davis laced a double into the left-field corner to clear the bases.

A combination of five UCA pitchers held the Cougars to just five hits as James Vasquez finished 2 for 4. Junior Ethan McKinzie and senior Andy Steinmetz both struck out two batters in their one inning of work.

UCA plays at Oral Roberts on Tuesday before returning home for a weekend series with Murray State.
