After being shut out three straight games, Hendrix College's softball team salvaged the second game of Sunday's doubleheader against Trinity University.

Paula Burr hit a walk-off two-run single in extra innings to help Hendrix College to a 2-1 victory in the second game of a doubleheader. The Tigers (23-11, 10-2) swept a doubleheader Saturday, 8-0 and 5-0 and the first game Sunday, 9-0, over Hendrix (14-15, 5-7).

After the games Sunday, Hendrix honored three seniors,  Trace Grinnell, Kaylen Stevenson and Brittiny Casteen.

Hendrix now sits in a tie for third place in the SCAC West with Austin College. Since AC has the tiebreaker, the Warriors will need to take three of the four games from the 'Roos in Sherman, Texas on Saturday and Sunday to make the SCAC Tournament in Jackson, Tenn. as the third seed out of the West.

Freshman Lauren Whitby (5-7) turned in a five-hit, one-run, four-strikeout performance to earn the victory for the Warriors in game two. Trinity's Sydney Friday (11-6) allowed three hits, two runs, two walks and struck out two in 4.1 innings of relief.

Trailing 1-0 in the extra inning, with two outs, Catelyn Gibbs and  Ashley Halbert drew walks to load the bases, setting up Burr's game-winning single to left field.

Burr and Sydney Copeland recorded two hits each and Grinnell, playing just her fourth game since missing the first 25 of the year with an injury, recorded a double. Kaylen Stevenson also recorded two sacrifice bunts.

Hendrix will play its final home games of the season on Wednesday when they host the University of the Ozarks for a 5 p.m. doubleheader.
